Roofing Nailer

Paslode Framing Nailer-IMCT

The Paslode Framing Nailer – IMCT is the original workhorse in Paslode’s fleet of gas-fired nail guns. This gun has also been the backbone of all our carpentry jobs for past 10 years. Our carpenters don’t baby these guns, in fact these guns get out right abused. And it has really never let us down.

The first model that was released was rather problematic with jamming and failing to fire on many occasions and reverting to the pneumatic guns was quite frequent event. The good news is that Paslode realized the guns failings and overcame these issues with some major improvements. The changes have seen jamming and misfiring a thing of the past. All the Paslode Framing Nailers we have purchased since the upgrades have worked perfectly without a hitch.

Performance on the Job with the Paslode Framing Nailer

The great thing about this gun is just works. Day in day out. Without minimal fuss. As long a you regularly clean and oil your nail gun it will give you little or no trouble. Setting the gun up takes a matter of minutes and you are good to go.

Whether it is a small framing job or building a whole house it will handle the workload. The Paslode Framing Nailer – IMCT does have its limitations, it does struggle with nailing into heavy beams and timbers, maybe 1 out of 3 nails left proud this also depends on the type of beam. Nothing the old trusty hammer can’t fix to finish the job.

Working over your head is also a distinct advantage with this framing nailer, at almost half the weight (6.9 Pounds). Arm fatigue is also greatly reduced from the lack of hose drag. After more than a few hours of nailing your wrists, elbow and shoulders tend to seize with the heavier pneumatics.

An adjustable drive depth and high visibility magazine are great features. The one disadvantage is that it only holds a single paper ream of 48 nails, half of most pneumatics. On average the fuel cell drives up to 1,200 nails per cell and the battery drives up to 4000 nails per charge. This varies greatly depending on ambient temperature and the age of the battery.

Advantages

  • The first and obvious advantage is purchasing this Paslode cordless is far more economical than purchasing a nail gun, compressor, hoses etc
  • The cordless configuration which allows you to move freely around the site and offers greater productivity. It is a pleasure not having to drag hoses around job site,  on scaffold and up ladders.
  • No more lugging hoses, power leads and compressors which saves on space, which reduces tripping hazards and more importantly save your back moving those heavy compressors.
  • The other advantage is running air hose on top of frames to install trusses and batons can be rather annoying and dangerous.
  • The pointed tip offers minimal gun slip with toe-nailing and nailing hip rafters.
  • The heavy belt/rafter hook is a great feature freeing up you hands and stopping the need to lay your gun down.
  • If you do routine maintenanceby keeping your gun clean and oiled it will work like a charm. This should only take 10 minutes or so. Some of our framing nailers have driven over a millions nails and do not skip a beat.
  • A great tip – Nails and fuel cells are available online with free delivery, so stocking up is very easy.

Disadvantages

  • Small magazine holds half the amount of its pneumatic counterparts.
  • It can over heat on really hot days causing jamming or misfiring. Nothing a short rest can’t fix. Who wants to work on an extremely hot day anyway.
  • In extreme cold can be an issue, but you can combat that by keeping a spare fuel cell in you chest pocket to keep warm and switch out. This takes care of the cold problem.
  • You need to buy a few extra batteries to switch out to minimise downtime.

What this means for you.

Overall the Paslode Framing Nailer – IMCT is durable and a solid performer that is the back bone of any carpentry work you choose to take on. Just the simple fact you can move around cordless is a deal maker in my eyes. With this freedom your productivity is boosted ten fold. Re-configuring compressors on large sites or finding available power are a thing of the past.

As I have said the Paslode Framing Nailer does have its limitations, I would be lying if i said it didn’t. It is probably more suited to re-modeling and renovation user rather than the power nailing carpenter. We have used in both modes with no issues but some of the high volume tradespeople might find the fire rate a little low.

The Bottom Line

If you are a die-hard air gun nailer and want a good fire rate, then the C325 Paslode Framing Nailer is the one for you. For the weekend warrior or re-modeller you will find the IMCT nail gun easy to use straight out of the box. It is user-friendly and is a perfect fit with its easy to handle design. You will love the no fuss delivery of nails and more importantly you can ditch the compressor and hoses for good The Paslode Framing Nailer – IMCT is about $300 to $400 and for the money is a small price to pay for mobility, reliability and ease of use.

Paslode Framing Nailer - C325The Paslode Framing Nailer CF325 is the new boy on the block. The younger brother of the IMTC. This gun gives you better performance and some greatly improved designs that make it a great gun to use on-site. The guys at Paslode obviously have listened to their customers and come up with goods.

We have been road-testing this bad boy for about 2 years now and there is certainly some dramatic changes to the gun overall. When we mean road-test we really mean test. The Paslode framing guns we do have, get everything thrown at them. From the usual total house frame to fixing high span hardwood and laminated beams. These guns sometimes run 10 hours a day, day after day, week after week without a hiccup.

Performance on the job.

We rely on these guns to work every time without problems and so far they haven’t let us down.We have just finished all the internal wall frames of a 20 story apartment block with just 3 of these guns and they absolutely chewed it up.

The first time I used a Paslode Framing Nailer CF325 ,  I was seriously impressed. The first thing I noticed is it feels so much more comfortable around the rubberized hand grip.  The non-slip grip reduces hand fatigue, even during those all-day framing jobs.  It also  fits easily between 16″ on-center studs, joists, and roof trusses. Love that…

The second thing I have noticed is the rate of fire, the down time between charges gives you a chance to get more nails into the timber.  It will never be a quick as a pneumatic gun for ultra-high speed nailing pros. But in saying that for me it’s about quality of work and not spraying nails around the place like  a drunk hunter using a shot-gun.

The new multi-angle nose tip is also a great new feature with reducing gun slip on acute angles. The spikes on the nose hold to pine particularly well. One of the  other great feature is you can actually apply much less pressure.  Even the old overhead, one-handed,  on tippy toes nailing is breeze and sinks every time no matter what angle.

Driving nails into hard timber is greatly improved and very consistent, the old hammer stays in the holster a lot more. Perfect for hardwood decking, trusses , hi span timbers etc.

As far as keeping up on site this gun is up for the task are we really impressed with it. The upgraded durability is certainly sturdy enough to be dropped, kicked and basically mistreated and believe me it does at times.

Even with the high volume jobs we have, we are yet to suffer any major mechanical problems. I don’t know if that’s just luck, good maintenance or it’s just good design on Paslode’s behalf.

Advantages

  1. Of course, the best feature of this Paslode nail gun is its portability.
  2. The included rechargeable battery will drive 4,000 nails on one charge. and deliver 1300 nail without skipping beat
  3. 50,000 nails before it needs cleaning-up to 5x more nails than the earlier model. Which means more uptime.
  4. Rubberized grip is an awesome addition.
  5. Offers real grunt with delivery and into hardwood.
  6. Quick fuel & battery load ups. No more clicking into the receiver like the old models.
  7. The depth setting is a breeze as you can do so by hand and not having to break out the tools.
  8. Nail lockout feature prevents blank fires.

Disadvantage

  1. The nail depth adjustment is a little wonky, but once you get used to it there was no issues.
  2. I was very frustrated trying to find replacement fuel cells initially and tend to buy online as some places don’t stock the nails or the fuel cells. A quick tip keep well stocked if you travel for work as some stockists don’t have the right nails.
  3. I was also a bit disappointed to see clearing nail jambs does require tip disassembly via an allen wrench.
  4. Has a small nail magazine compared to pneumatics – Which i would have thought Paslode would have changed from the last model.

So what does that mean for you.

With the CF325 Paslode  Framing you have all the standard features that all Paslode Framing Guns offer. Portability is a massive plus in fact it the best feature bar none.

The dragging hoses and compressors everywhere you go is a thing of the past.

With the plain simplicity this nail gun has downtime dramatically reduced, because you won’t need to spend an hour or so setting up or breaking down, you’ll save both time and labor costs.

This Paslode Nail Gun offers nothing but greater productivity with the higher fire rate and a tool-free depth of drive adjustment.

The Bottom Line

Overall, we are very impressed with Paslode’s Framing nailer CF325 nail gun. If you’re in the market for a framing nailer, we think the CF325 nail gun makes an excellent choice for the hardcore regular user. Which has been missing to a certain degree in the marketplace.

It has a lot of improvements and smart design features. So if you are a  professional tradesperson who requires a great deal out of their nail guns then the cF325 framing has been designed with the professional in mind. We have thrown everything at the CF325 Paslode Nail Gun and it well and truly lives up to all expectations.
