The Paslode Framing Nailer – IMCT is the original workhorse in Paslode’s fleet of gas-fired nail guns. This gun has also been the backbone of all our carpentry jobs for past 10 years. Our carpenters don’t baby these guns, in fact these guns get out right abused. And it has really never let us down.
The first model that was released was rather problematic with jamming and failing to fire on many occasions and reverting to the pneumatic guns was quite frequent event. The good news is that Paslode realized the guns failings and overcame these issues with some major improvements. The changes have seen jamming and misfiring a thing of the past. All the Paslode Framing Nailers we have purchased since the upgrades have worked perfectly without a hitch.
Performance on the Job with the Paslode Framing Nailer
The great thing about this gun is just works. Day in day out. Without minimal fuss. As long a you regularly clean and oil your nail gun it will give you little or no trouble. Setting the gun up takes a matter of minutes and you are good to go.
Whether it is a small framing job or building a whole house it will handle the workload. The Paslode Framing Nailer – IMCT does have its limitations, it does struggle with nailing into heavy beams and timbers, maybe 1 out of 3 nails left proud this also depends on the type of beam. Nothing the old trusty hammer can’t fix to finish the job.
Working over your head is also a distinct advantage with this framing nailer, at almost half the weight (6.9 Pounds). Arm fatigue is also greatly reduced from the lack of hose drag. After more than a few hours of nailing your wrists, elbow and shoulders tend to seize with the heavier pneumatics.
An adjustable drive depth and high visibility magazine are great features. The one disadvantage is that it only holds a single paper ream of 48 nails, half of most pneumatics. On average the fuel cell drives up to 1,200 nails per cell and the battery drives up to 4000 nails per charge. This varies greatly depending on ambient temperature and the age of the battery.

Advantages
- The first and obvious advantage is purchasing this Paslode cordless is far more economical than purchasing a nail gun, compressor, hoses etc
- The cordless configuration which allows you to move freely around the site and offers greater productivity. It is a pleasure not having to drag hoses around job site, on scaffold and up ladders.
- No more lugging hoses, power leads and compressors which saves on space, which reduces tripping hazards and more importantly save your back moving those heavy compressors.
- The other advantage is running air hose on top of frames to install trusses and batons can be rather annoying and dangerous.
- The pointed tip offers minimal gun slip with toe-nailing and nailing hip rafters.
- The heavy belt/rafter hook is a great feature freeing up you hands and stopping the need to lay your gun down.
- If you do routine maintenanceby keeping your gun clean and oiled it will work like a charm. This should only take 10 minutes or so. Some of our framing nailers have driven over a millions nails and do not skip a beat.
- A great tip – Nails and fuel cells are available online with free delivery, so stocking up is very easy.
Disadvantages
- Small magazine holds half the amount of its pneumatic counterparts.
- It can over heat on really hot days causing jamming or misfiring. Nothing a short rest can’t fix. Who wants to work on an extremely hot day anyway.
- In extreme cold can be an issue, but you can combat that by keeping a spare fuel cell in you chest pocket to keep warm and switch out. This takes care of the cold problem.
- You need to buy a few extra batteries to switch out to minimise downtime.
What this means for you.
Overall the Paslode Framing Nailer – IMCT is durable and a solid performer that is the back bone of any carpentry work you choose to take on. Just the simple fact you can move around cordless is a deal maker in my eyes. With this freedom your productivity is boosted ten fold. Re-configuring compressors on large sites or finding available power are a thing of the past.
As I have said the Paslode Framing Nailer does have its limitations, I would be lying if i said it didn’t. It is probably more suited to re-modeling and renovation user rather than the power nailing carpenter. We have used in both modes with no issues but some of the high volume tradespeople might find the fire rate a little low.
The Bottom Line
If you are a die-hard air gun nailer and want a good fire rate, then the C325 Paslode Framing Nailer is the one for you. For the weekend warrior or re-modeller you will find the IMCT nail gun easy to use straight out of the box. It is user-friendly and is a perfect fit with its easy to handle design. You will love the no fuss delivery of nails and more importantly you can ditch the compressor and hoses for good The Paslode Framing Nailer – IMCT is about $300 to $400 and for the money is a small price to pay for mobility, reliability and ease of use.
